Monza Round 2 – The ups and downs of sport!

Round 2 of the Eurocup was held at the famous Monza circuit in Italy, the fastest track on the calendar.

Qualifying for Race 1 yielded a good 9th spot on the grid. Alex got a great start and within a few short laps he made it through to 5th by which time the front group of four had a three second gap that wasn’t possible to break down. An excellent 5th position at the flag that put Alex in 8th position in the championship.

In qualifying for race 2 Alex made a small mistake on his last lap that cost him enough to set him back to 10th on the grid. It’s hard to get on the podium from there but good points were expected. Unfortunately a dangerous manoeuvre from a fellow driver only a few hundred metres from the start put Alex into the barriers at high speed. His car rebounded onto the track where he was then collected by two other cars that couldn’t avoid him. A very dangerous situation which Alex walked away from with only mild concussion.

Without points from Race 2 Alex dropped back to 10th in the championship. After some important time to recover in coming weeks, the next championship appointment is at Silverstone on the 19-20 May.
