24H of Spa – Alex’s race debut in GT3!

Alex’s race debut in GT3 finally happened in the most challenging circumstances of the 24 hour of Spa. In the first two calendar events at Monza and Paul Ricard the GetSpeed Mercedes-AMG was retired before Alex had an opportunity to jump into the car.

The number 3 GetSpeed qualified only 68th out of the 70 participants after a challenging qualifying but it finished the race in 32nd position outright and 9th in the Bronze class. The result could have been much better without damage incurred soon after the start of the race that handicapped performance although fortunately it didn’t eliminate the car from the gruelling event.

Alex’s first taste of GT3 racing was in the night stints in partnership with teammate Patrick Assenheimer. A very new experience for a driver that has raced most of his career in single seater sprint races! By dawn the car had moved up to 30th position despite the considerable driving challenges to car stability and handling from the damaged front right corner.

In the last four hours Alex completed three stints and GetSpeed Mercedes-AMG 3 crossed the finish line in 32nd position. After a difficult start to season Alex is hoping for better luck in the last two events at the Nurburgring and Barcelona.
