A year on at Monza

Twelve months on from Alex’s serious accident he was expecting a very different outcome from the weekend at Monza.

As expected qualifying turned out to be a difficult affair with cars blocking the road as they attempted to find a slipstream but nobody wanted to be the first to go and provide an advantage to the rest of the field. Alex was on track to post a top three time until he came across the traffic jam and had to abort. Despite posting the 14th time he was soon promoted to 8th as penalties were handed out for the chaos in practice.

Alex had great pace in race one and was up to 5th when he was hit on the rear tyre which triggered a slow puncture. He slowly dropped to 11th but a penalty for touching a competitor and causing him to spin put Alex back to 16th after crossing the line.

In race 2 some determined driving from grid 16 with a less than well balanced car and some occasional good fortune saw Alex score a fifth place and regain 9th in the championship.
