CAMS Academy Driver Impresses In Italian Job

alexperoni_300x200Hobart born driver Alex Peroni has been given the opportunity many young Australian drivers dream of, with Peroni to race Formula 4 in Europe in 2015.

Peroni, who attended the CAMS Academy, has been racing karts from the age of 7 and progressed from racing in Tasmania to mainland Australia and then to Europe.

In Mid 2014 an Italian based team with Israeli backing ‘Israel F4’, invited Alex to test with them in Italy.

At 14 years old and without any experience in the Formula 4 cars Alex immediately demonstrated great speed and technique to the extent that Israel F4 established negotiations for Alex to test further in Italy and Spain in December with the intention of preparing for the full Formula 4 Championship in 2015 as team mate to the experienced Israeli driver Bar Baruch.

Alex’s Race Engineer Ruggero Cafagna said, “Although Alex is very young he demonstrated that, even without any experience in the cars, he was able to achieve good lap times quickly. He has excellent potential and with very little work will become a competitive single seater racing driver at international level.”

After the test Alex said “That was a fantastic experience. Adapting to a car after so long in karts wasn’t as difficult as I thought, although I know there’s a lot of work to be done to squeeze everything out of the car. I also need to focus on building my upper body strength. I can’t wait for the next tests in Italy and Spain in December.”

Alex’s father, Piero said “The Team worked very well with Alex and it was a very positive first approach to single seater racing. As always, the most significant challenge is finding the support to send Alex to Europe for the year.”
